The 2nd album of the Hamburg band Tetrao Urogallus!
Cold, dark and wet. Lightning flashes, illuminating the clearing with a thunderclap. Dramas of the thicket, horror in the high fog, carnage in the bushes! The fierce battle between the wolverine (Gulo Gulo) and the capercaillie (Tetrao Urogallus) is in full swing.
On the new album by Tetrao Urogallus, animals are still animals, free, wild and without mercy. Rubbish? Familiar kitsch in oil with a stag at dusk? Yes. But the stag has blood on all 12 ends.
This trip between protometal, psych and doom funk leads the listener along muddy paths deep into the dark heart of the forest. We encounter poisonous mushrooms, burrs and a pack of wild boars track after track. Memories of the debut album emerge as beguiling will-o'-the-wisps along the way. But songs such as bottomless potholes, thorny undergrowth and lurking adders demand the traveller's attention again. The destination is clear, only the return remains uncertain.
Dennis Rux (guitar, producer) and David Nesselhauf (bass) have released their second album with the project Tetrao Urogallus in the provisional Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios (the last two studios were destroyed by water damage and an explosion). In addition to their joint projects Angels of Libra (Sweet Soul) and Hamburg Spinners (Hammond Groove), this instrumental doom-funk/protometal project allows the musicians to live out the dark and psychedelic sides of their work. Together with Mark Norton (sax), Jan Schepmann (trumpet), Chris Haertel (philicorda, moog) and Corneel Canters (drums), David and Dennis have now recorded the sextet's even darker second album: Gulo Gulo.
