"Im Schwarzwald" is the third album by the mod-jazz quartet Hamburg Spinners. The Hamburg Spinners are Carsten "Erobique" Meyer (soundtrack to "Der Tatortreiniger", among others) on Hammond B-3 organ, Dennis Rux (Rhonda, Trashmonkeys) on guitar, David Nesselhauff (Diaszpora) on bass and Lucas Kochbeck on drums. Released as a vinyl LP on A Sexy Records.

Recorded in early 2024 at the legendary MPS studio in Villingen-Schwenningen, this 3rd album is particularly captivating due to Carsten Meyer's (Erobique) passionate and soulful playing of the Hammond organ. Due to the set-up, the purely instrumental album repeatedly suggests a relationship to the Leopold Kraus Wellenkapelle, which is actually based in the Black Forest, although the Spinners' foundation is not surf, but a swinging mixture of soul, R&B and mod jazz, with a pinch of funk or boogaloo thrown in for good measure. Meyer's soulful organ sound, reminiscent of Booker T. Jones, Ingfried Hoffmann and Georgie Fame, is carried by Dennis Rux's warm and gripping guitar sound, David Nesselhauf's dynamic bass playing and Lucas Kochbeck's precise and tight drumming. The melodies invite you to fantasise and groove along.

As the Englishman says: "Who needs winners when there's the Hamburg Spinners?"
